Raymarine I40 Depth

Hi Cruisers
I have recently purchased a Raymarine i40 depth, second hand. It is paired with an older transducer via two wires, no markings on transducer. The depth is reading correctly. Problem occurs when powering the unit up it reverts to repeater status and we then have to set it to master and then recalerbrate it each time we turn it on, which is annoying. I push and hold the down and action button for 2 seconds after resetting it to save settings, but when I start it back up it has reverted to repeater mode and no settings have been saved. Any ideas how to solve this issue.
