Raymarine rotary drive installation

Has anyone installed a rotary drive on their binnacle steering chain? If there are other posts please direct me to them.

Re: Raymarine rotary drive installation

I have installed one on my boat. Didn’t install it on the existing steering chain but installed an extra sprocket on the steering shaft with a separate chain

Re: Raymarine rotary drive installation

Go poke around the Edson Steering site. Some pictures if I remember correctly. Have to offset the AP drive sprocket and then have one or two idlers.

Re: Raymarine rotary drive installation

That’s what I was thinking after looking at the Edson site and the installation instructions for the rotary drive. I guess another sprocket on the steering shaft it is......

Re: Raymarine rotary drive installation

I installed a Raymarine rotary drive on my Hunter 380 inside the console. There was a provision on the back side on the steering column to add a sprocket and a space was provided to mount the rotary drive inside the console. It has worked rather flawlessly for 7 years now.

Re: Raymarine rotary drive installation

I have a rotary drive installed in the pedestal with cable drive steering. Motor sits at the base of the pedestal and drives a sprocket on the steering box. Works well. Pics in attachments.
