Question Raymarine rudder sensor longest run?

Anyone know the max length I can have on the sensor wire. Its a long run so want to make sure.

Thanks

I'm not sure if there is a published max length, but it is probably quite long. You should use shielded wire if the run is really long (>50 feet?) but otherwise I would think 100' or so should work.

Raymarine one comes with a 10m (30ft?) cable. I assume it can also be extended safely without too much trouble by another 5m.

That sender is a 5000 Ohm potentiometer. I would say keep the wire resistance under 5 Ohms. That would be around 1000’ for 16awg.

The Sensor is no more than a 5kOhm potentiometer with its centre tap spanning approx 1.5kOhm to 3.5kOhm, so the resistance of the cable should have little effect. It would make sense to calibrate (or recalibrate) the system with the extended cable run in place, however.
Edit: oops, sorry team karst, just noticed your response.
