RMS grib files and boat position

Just got a new computer, arggggh, that runs windows 8. Got RMS Express running via internet and downloading gribs. But a couple of issues.
!. the boat position does not show up on the grib reports and I am using the grib viewer that is recommended and looks like what I use to see except the boat position.
2. I can not get the map to zoom in and a bit of trouble typing in the coordinates I want.

OH - as info I can not use the ssb right now as the Pactor Modem folks tell me I need a new usb cable that works with windows 8 and that is going to be difficult to find as most ports we go to are small until I get to Greece.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: RMS grib files and boat position

I've also had the **privilege** of recently getting a new computer with Windows 8. I am not a fan of the OS, but I did get Airmail working (including gribs) without too much trouble in Windows 8. I know Winlink now recommends RMS Express, but I've got better things to do than install and learn new software for fun. Maybe the more primitive Airmail is worth a try for you.

I don't see how a USB cable that worked under a previous OS wouldn't work with Windows 8. Are you referring to the serial to USB converter?

Re: RMS grib files and boat position

I have rms and airmail on a Toshiba tablet. Bought it just for pastor use via Bluetooth. Worked great and I'm using it right now for something else! Uses way less power than a laptop and was only around $150. Get one bigger than I did.

Re: RMS grib files and boat position

Ok = so how do I get the grib reader to recognize where my boat is? and how do I zoom in a bit more to get the right area. right now I am over sizing the area.
