Satellite AIS

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum or not but an interesting look at how governments are using Satellite AIS.

Interesting but keep in mind that satellite AIS only works with class A transponders. The signal from a class B is not powerful enough to be picked up by the satellites (for now).

interestingly

"Both Class A and Class B AIS transponders are detectable by S-AIS, however Class A transmissions are more likely to be detected for the following reasons, among others:" IMS Global

Ok, that's new for me. I like it. This can be a huge help if we ever are overdue or lost at sea.
