Shakespeare Surecall Super Halo

Our “ new to us” came with a Super Halo cell phone booster. The manual is party useless and states upfront that you “ may” need permission from your cell provider to use the system? Seems kinda crazy for something that retails for $1200 to be reliant on cell provider to give permission? Anyway, all the lights on the system are green, appears functional, but beyond that I’m not having any luck. Would really appreciate some input from anyone that might have one of these units, let me know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

What are you trying to do?

If there is no cell signal at all. It’s not going to create it. If you have low signal. Hold the phone 1’ away from the inside antenna. You will have have slightly better signal.

Relisticly it only works within a couple feet of the inside antenna. And there isn’t really any way to know if it’s working. Maybe you can see the bars change by 1 if you turn the power off / on. otherwise no why to know.

Get a starlink and do wifi calling.

Simply trying to get a better signal. We are on the hard right now and where we are ( Deltaville, VA) we don’t get good reception anywhere. Was hoping it might be a noticeable improvement ( it isn’t). Agree on Starlink, new boat ( to us) so other priorities are taking our money! Thanks for the input.

Not familiar with that particular unit . I have a WeBoost (pre Starlink). Yes, all technically require authorization from your service provider - just a phone call with Verizon for us. Cell boosters are inherently flakey. In instances where you have a single tower with weak signal like in the Bahamas, they can help a lot in certain anchorages. If you have multiple towers in your location, the boost may worsen the signal. If no signal, nothing to amplify so nothing.
Bars on your phone don’t tell the whole story. Run a Speedtest app or equivalent with booster on & off to see what you are getting.
