Signal boosters

First time posting / please be kind

We had an indirect lighting strike this summer. No boat damage but now we get to replace some of our instruments that stopped working.

One of the items we need to replace is our signal booster. We had a 2G / 3G Shakespeare booster and are now considering a Shakespeare Super Halo 3G 4G LTE Marine Cellular Booster.

To be honest the 2G / 3G one "maybe" improved our reception by one bar at the best of times.

What alternatives should I consider?

We're sail in the Great Lakes (Georgian Bay)

Thanks in advance.

Nancy

Re: Signal boosters

I’ve got a WeBoost Drive Reach and have not had great results yet. Mostly user error or rolling into international coverage my SIM card doesn’t support I’m thinking is the problem so far.

I’ve followed Steve’s advise on Seabits by in large, frankly I get the best success setting the Pepwave router/modem as is on the cabin top. I’ve not yet truly installed everything with external antennas and alike yet.

I’m on Lake Superior.

That looks like a wifi booster, what I’m hoping to find out about is the best cell boosters. Where there is no WIFI available. Did I misinterpret the REDPORT note?

Thanks!

Re: Signal boosters

We've had excellent results with our WeBoost 4G booster (we have the slightly cheaper single-phone cradle system).

Has clearly boosted signals to useable range here in BC (such as Northern Vancouver Island). But if no signal there is nothing to boost.

Re: Signal boosters

cell boosters are hit and miss. they work ok as long as you hold the phone 1 foot away from the inside antenna. they certainly don't cover a room. or a boat.

Re: Signal boosters

I’ve recently gotten a Cel-Fi Go. Much better than the WeBoost I’ve been using.
