My computer skills are about a 5 on the 1 to 10 scale. I have a router aboard to share Internet. When outside signal coverage, I've been shutting it down.

I use an iPad as a plotter, and commonly play music through the little tinny speaker. The thought occurred to me that I might be able to use the iPad to control the main computer below (which is connected to the stereo) to play tunes through the big speakers. Problem is I have no idea how to set that up.

Any suggestions?

Look for software like TightVNC that will run on both your iPad and PC.

Put itunes on the main computer, use the app called "remote" from the app store.

exactly, but even better is to start using streaming audio, like with a Logitec Squeezebox system. You get remote control by getting the app from the app-store, of which iPeng is the best imo.
