SpaceX now has a standalone starlink mini plan ($50 per month)

SpaceX now has a dedicated (as in not shared with residential) Starlink "Mini Roam" plan. $50 a month for 50GB (additional data $1/GB). Officially only supports land usage but that likely includes close to shore and inland waters unofficially.

The starlink mini dish can also be officially purchased and used with normal $150/mo Regional Roam plan.

Re: SpaceX now has a standalone starlink mini plan ($50 per month)

I have already put in my order for one ! I will definitely post a review and put a video up on my YouTube channel.

It's exactly what I've been waiting for. I just want to get weather mostly, and to stay in touch. I have no interest in streaming movies or videos. I have a 2gig plan for my phone now and I rarely go over. 50GB is plenty.

It's a roaming plan, they know it's going to be used everywhere. Looking at the map the Bahamas are covered. Should work just like the current models and plans do.

According to the specs looks like it only draws 3-5 amps, which would be great.

It would be great if it can work with our mobile regional plan that is unlimited data. We tend to average around 1.2Tb a month on Starlink. Two people working full time in data heavy jobs requies a lot of data.

It can. The mini dish can be used for both normal roam and mini roam.

Still asking $599 for it. Central and South America can buy for $200. It is good to see them rolling this out.

Just ordered ours. We have been using our old residantual one on the boat for 3 years. Now that I can put it on the Regional Mobile plan it should work out nicely for us.

This is likely the end of Iridium Go.

No, it is not: Iridium go can be used as an emergency device eg in a liferaft. This toy cannot be used that way

Re: SpaceX now has a standalone starlink mini plan ($50 per month)

Did others see the mention on Starlink's site that the Mini isn't as good in bad weather and is also a bit slower than Standard?

I just moved our service location to Panama for the season and saw the mini for $200, but then saw the statement about bad weather. Given it is rainy season here in Panama I opted to stay w/ Standard for now.

Will love to see the reviews on the Mini.

Many people I know have Starlink and Garmin InReach. Iridium Go are overpriced new. You can find many used ones for sale.

No idea why you call the SL Mini a toy. Just because they don't charge $1000 USD for it doesn't mean it's a toy.

That will be towards the end of the year, when Amazon starts getting their Kuiper satellites launched.
Then I expect a price correction. Think bundles with Amazon services.
Something else, to further twist Elon's tail!

Best wishes all.

Would be hard to purchase anything from Musk. I bought a Lucid rather than his Tesla.

Dish size matters. Bigger is better for performance and reliability.
The smaller the dish the less power it uses.

They have a full range now of 5 units to choose from (varies with purchase location):
Mini: 25-40W 110 degree field of view
Standard Articulating: 50-75W 110 deg FoV
Standard: 75-100W 110 deg FoV
High Perfromance: 110-150W 140 deg FoV
Flat High Performance: 110-150W 140 deg FoV

I'll soon be comparing the Mini to the Standard Actuated in Guatemala.

We leave our SL on 24/7 so power consumption matters. I hope the Mini is good enough for our needs.
