Re: SSB Handheld Reciever for Weather

We have a Tecsun PL660 and had pretty good results receiving Chris Parker in the Abacos and Exumas last winter. We just used the whip antenna. One thing that really improved reception was turning off potential interfering devices on the boat. Inverters, generators, even refrigeration units can cause interference.

I should have mentioned I made sure I made sure I had the devices etc off when trying to listen.

Tune to 10000 and listen for a pulse tone and a voice that tells the time. If you can pick up that you should be good to go.

Re: SSB Handheld Reciever for Weather

imo 90% of the reception quality is all about the antenna... run some 16awg to your flag halyard and down to the cockpit, through a hatch and to your radio..
