Standard Horizon GX1850 GPS

I have had this unit, with the optional wired remote mic/speaker. for 2 seasons now. Sometimes the handheld in the cockpit goes out and a simple restart brings it back. Sometimes the base unit goes off as well.

Wiring all seams fine. The connectors for the remote were made and molded units and more length than needs so I just coiled up the excess. I have experience trying to solder these types of tiny wires and connectors. No thanks. much easier to coil up the extra.

Instructions say to plug in the remote unit before turning on, which I always do. I can be out sailing for hours and everything is fine all day. Other times It will go out once or several times in only a few hours. Always comes back.

fuses and breakers are fine. The radio is on the same breaker as my instruments (5A) and there is an inline fuse to the unit.

Any ideas what could be the problem would be greatly welcomed.
