Transatlantic Internet Connection

Does anyone know if there is an affordable, reliable way to have an internet connection while crossing the Atlantic?

What do you mean by affordable? It can be done with Iridium but very slowly. For about the cost of 1k per month it can be done with a dedicated sattelite antenna.

Maje,
If you want internet access, as stated above, Iridium would be the way to go. If you want email access, it can be done with Iridium or through a SSB/Ham radio with a special modem (called a pactor) also. If you do a search on these you will get plenty of information.
Regards
Marno

I will still have to work. Fortunately, I can work from anywhere as long as I have an internet connection.

That could be done relatively inexpensively with Irridium so long as you are only sending text files.

As you can see from the replies Iridium is one answer but far from the perfect one. Have a look at this attachment describing the latest developments in Marine Internet connectivity.
