Don’t bother with ais receive only, the safety comes from ais transmit.

Save elsewhere but buy a Ais transmit unit.

Totally Agree.
And make sure if you share/split the antenna with a VHF you have a antenna that is made to handle the AIS and VHF frequencies. I tested my original VHF antenna on my masthead with AIS and the SWR was way out of line. Swapped it out and all is good.
