VHF Handheld

My Standard Horizon HX280S Speaker is not working, the radio broadcasts, seems to have all functions, but no sound. Is there a hard reboot I can do to reset radio?

Re: VHF Handheld

I don't know that particular radio, but if you are able to remove the battery for a minute and replace it that should do a hard reboot.

Re: VHF Handheld

At the risk of stating the obvious, are you sure the volume is turned up and the squelch is turned down?

Re: VHF Handheld

Yes, have removed battery. Yes, volume up, squelch down.
Have contacted Standard Horizone Tech Support.
They said there is no way to hard reboot, and I could send it to them, or buy a new one.
Send for repair around $95.
Buy new, $160
Visited West Marine:
Tried new antenna (No difference)
Checked to see if broadcasting (Yes broadcasting)
The radio is receiving a signal (Busy icon is flashing as signal is received)
The speaker is cut off like I am pushing the Talk button
Dead quiet.

Re: VHF Handheld

No External MIC connection.
From reading the service manual, there is electronic circuitry that mutes the speaker when in transmission mode. I would imagine that is where the problem lies. Looks like a new handheld backup vhf is in my future.

Thank you for all responses I have received.
