VHF mic cable disintegrated

I have 2 VHF radios. One fitted at the chart table. One in the spares locker.

Both have mic cables that are disintegrating.

Where can I get replacement cable. I think they are both 8strand shielded. (The main one is for sure).

Not looking for manufacturer parts, just coiled cable.

Secondly, why is this happening and what can I do to prevent it.

Same here I have 5 year old Lowrance VHF and the mic cable lost its cover.
I just peeled it all off as the mic cable can not be unplugged..

My 15 year old Horizon VHF hasn't got this problem

Modern marine VHF radios are disposable. They are in fact a terrific bargain for what you pay for them. On "repairable" commercial radios a replacement mic alone is $100 plus installation which is more than half the cost of most marine VHF radios.

So just replace the whole thing and think about something else.

Re: VHF mic cable disintegrated

Unless you are good at soldering you want a mike cable from the OEM. It will have the connector to the radio on the cord and another connector that plugs in inside the Mike. Even if it looks hard wired to the radio there is most likely a connector inside the radio that the cord plugs into.

Before you buy anything take the radio and the mike apart and look at what it will take to replace the cord.
