VHF output to headphones

Hey all,

I'd really like to get radio (VHF to start, eventually SSB) output to headphones. It's nice to not wake up the off watch crew. I'd like to listen to weather forecasts late at night without keeping my SO awake. And it helps to hear better over engine noise or wind noise.

We're in the process of re-doing our nav desk electronics panel and now's the time to tackle this project if we can. We're buying a new VHF and remote mic. Probably an ICOM M422. I've never found a VHF that has a headphone jack built in. Has anyone ran the external speaker output to a microphone jack? Is it possible?

Thanks!

Jason

Yes & yes. That's how it's done.

Why would you be putting your microphone into the external speaker output - besides the point it won't fit?

microphone jack-headphone jack, we know what you meant. Think about getting a pair of radioshack wireless headphones so you can move about the boat while you listen.

Donradcliffe, you must be smarter than me, I hardly know what I mean, let alone anyone else .
