Do your bit and go Vesper, you may want to upgrade or sell the boat at some point in the future.
Just for the record, MMSI numbers belong to the boat, not the owner. Any time you buy a new-to-you boat, have the seller relinquish the MMSI number so you can pick it up, then you won’t have to change the MMSI numbers in any of the devices on the vessel.

Not if the boat is re-registered. Even more of a problem if you want to upgrade your AIS and sell the old one.

What do you think? It has everything together.

I'm planning to add AIS on my boat and so far, I've settled on the AMEC B600W. Under $600, it's class B+ SOTMDA, has wifi, and it'll multiplex incoming NMEA2000 data out over wifi (in addition to the AIS data). That last feature will be handy for the laptop with OpenCPN.

That looks good! FYI- my AIS GPS antenna is below deck. This may degrade accuracy - but it is not my NAV location, so if it off by 10’ meh…

Re: Want AIS on my Jeanneau; Raymarine AIS700 or Veper XB-8000?

Thank you again, guys!!! I know many of us are living the dream on boats... liveaboards... partially liveaboards... etc.

I've been fortunate and still working and have expendable income... so, if I need to spend the couple hundred more USD, I'm okay with it... for now, at least. I'm working hard and I'm investing in my boat (even though it's definitely a depreciable asset) and more so - in my education. Thanks to you guys and your knowledge, experience, help, and recommendations.

Any mistakes or $$$ that I lose... I apply towards learning life and learning off of my mistakes.

I plan to help others in the future so that they may benefit from ALL of us.

Thank you!!

P.S. I'm definitely about to hit the "checkout" button on the Vesper all-in-one package.

Its a good unit. I've had it installed for a year. Only downside so far is the very thin power wires in the cable. You have to be careful with them.

As you noted, it's a B+ SOTDMA unit with 5 watts. Unless money is a real issue, it doesn't make sense to install the older, class B 2 watt units in a new install.

Have you considered the Vesper Cortex. That's what we have. It's excellent. Highly recommended.

I recommend the Em-Trak product line. Built in antenna splitter, WiFi, and SODTA transmit and receive. An all around great value.

Re: Want AIS on my Jeanneau; Raymarine AIS700 or Veper XB-8000?

Have installed many brands on mine and friends boats. Havent found any bad ones but my favorite one is the Si-Tex MDA-5. Its a Class B+ AIS Transceiver with a built in antenna splitter. Very affordable too. What ever you get go with a B+ transceiver. More power and Class A transmission priority. Huge difference in performance.

Also a big Raymarine fan here. Instead of the Axiom pro Check out the Axiom Plus. Brighter screen than the older pro. Unless you really want the external buttons. Having used both extensively, I never use the buttons since the touch screen is so good....
Good luck!

Re: Want AIS on my Jeanneau; Raymarine AIS700 or Veper XB-8000?

I have the Vesper and it is really great. The iPad app is great too. ANY info on 0183 or NMEA2000 connected to the Vesper is transmitted by WIFI. Engine data, tank data, Nav data and of course AIS are all repeater via WIFI and can be viewed on the corresponding App. Wonderful! My MacBookPro displays all AIS depth Track, routing and CS via all the info riding on the NMEA 2000 network. Vesper support is GREAT too.
