Want to swap your Radar for a week aboard?

Summary is we might need your used good Raymarine Radar RL80 or later, in return for a week aboard sailing/snorkeling in paradise. Or another option.

We have a RL80C and a 4kw scanner that stopped working. Identified the fault to be the opto-coupler sensor (OPB620) so we ordered some, and a few weeks later they arrived. Yesterday I soldered in the new one and did a test, it failed, and it now seems the 5v supply to the opto has failed...Further tests were inconclusive, so I tested the newly fitted opto coupler and it was blown. This is most unusual, so I took another new one (bought 5 of them) and tested it = passed, soldered it in and tested it = FAIL...??

The only thing I did was solder it in, then in a stroke of madness, I measured the voltage on the tip of my soldering iron and got 105V AC !!! So the soldering iron blew the upstream power supply to the opto-coupler (which is used to reset the clock and confirm heading every revolution)

Another option would be to ship a used radar to Panama or Colombia, or maybe just the PSU board out of the scanner unit. So if you have anything that could help us, please let us know. Its a 4kw analog scanner.

Damn. Just sold mine on fleabay 2 weeks ago. Exactly what you have.

Replaced it with a Raymarine MFD and wireless radar.
