What communication tu install?

Hi friends
I'm equiping my boat for crosing from Galapagos to the Marquesas. As I have no experience out of VHF and Satphone, I'd like to take some advantage of your experience. At one sid I'm looking into shortwave radio, for which I have to make the whole deal (license and ID), while on the other hand I saw HF SSB Radio and which is capable to handle Email? Has anyone of you a suggestion of which one would be easier, moretrustful and less expensive? Thanks for your help and good sailing!

Re: What communication tu install?

There are a lot of good ICOM SSB radios for sale on here and other places on-line. With one of these and a Pactor Modum, you can have e-mail most everywhere!! and you get the added advantage of weather reports, and the many Cruisers Networks in the Pacific and most of the rest of the world ! We have no knowlage of Sat Phones but Im sure others will explain those to you! Connie have had a SSB and a Pactor for years and would almost rather leave shore without coffee, then go without a working SSB (almost!! LOL) Just our 2 cents
