What plugs and Sockets are used on the icom m802

Hello everybody!

I'm going crazy googling plugs and sockets including picture search in German and English...
I've spent hours on the webpage of a pretty big German electronics vendor searching their database of plugs...

Background is that some PO successfully unplugged the power and antenna tuner cables by pulling on the cables without unlocking the tabs on the plugs.. so the pins inside the plugs don't lock inside the plugs anymore.

Does anybody know the name/type/specs of the plugs Icom used for the power supply and the antenna tuner on the black box of the radio?!?

And maybe a source for those plugs? Icom didn't bother to reply, three dealers only told me that the m802 isn't for the European market and therefore they don't have any information...

Thanks and kind regards

Will

Thank you Gord!
I've been a long time reader and I'm hoping that I can also contribute to the forum since I'm a boat builder by trade.

This is a link to the manual for that unit on the icom uk website:

https://icomuk.co.uk/files/icom/PDF/...IC-M802man.pdf

It says that the tuner control cable is OPC-566 on page 56.
As to the power connection, it’s only two wires, couldn’t you solder them into the unit adding an inline plug and socket for convenience?

I’ve found Icom UK helpful in the past.

You might try Dockside Radio in the US. They sell and service ICOM marine radios and should be able to get you new plugs if anyone can.

Re: What plugs and Sockets are used on the icom m802

I am not familiar with the Icom 802 and without a picture I can only guess as a suggested source. I am familiar with the Icom 706 which uses Molex connectors. The tuner is a 4 pin connector. The pins are replaceable with a simple tool. All were available from Radio Shack whose local stores are gone. I don't know if Radio Shack is alive as mail order. Molex connectors are available from electrical supply stores like Allied, Digi-Key, Newark, etc. The 706 uses an audio out connector had by cutting the cable from an old serial port mouse.

The connectors are in the manual and they're all available from Mouser or Digikey.

I made up a new tuner cable for my M802 and had no trouble sourcing the connectors, nor are they expensive.

Be sure however to use proper shielded cable.

I think that what you are looking for is a Berg plug or receptacle if it is the same as mine. Google Berg plugs.

I couldn't find the type of plug I need in the manual anywhere, same thing with the service manual. They only specify the icom partnumber.

I'll be using a Lapp shielded control cable, so that won't be an issue.
I also got all the appropriate crimping tools etc.

Ive looked up "Berg" plugs but they wont fit the raster measurement of 2.5mm (sorry, metric system).

The Tuner side has a molex connector which was the first I found.

I got a few quotes today from dealers selling icom radios but what they are asking is quite ridiculous...
I've given up on icom europe but i might contact icom uk then.
But my guess would be that they won't give me details about the manufacturer and type of plugs used...

Simply cutting the plug and soldering won't do since the retaining lugs inside the tuner plug for the radio are gone.

I#ll keep on serarching ;-)

Re: What plugs and Sockets are used on the icom m802

Thank you all for the efforts!
I've found out that the connectors on the the AT-140 are original Molex, the part numbers have been linked by Len.
However, the connectors on the radio aren't made by Molex, no matter what any other source from the internet states. I got a reply from them and they said that those aren't made by Molex.
They pointed me into another direction but first I need to double check.

Cheers Will
