Which Satellite Phone and Network to Use in the Indonesian Tropics ?

Ahoy!
I plan on buying satellite phone for reliable communications in the equatorial waters around Sumatra.
What phone do you recommend and what network? seems like Irridium is the only good one for the Northern Indian ocean?
Any recommendations on websites to purchase the phone?

Well, I found out that the phone the surf charter boats use up here is the Thuraya phone and connected to the Thuraya network, works really well and very reliable.
