Well the dishy + inverter sucks constant 120W+× from your bank. That sums up during a 24h day especially if you have a whole cloudy week. Have 1100AH LFP bank and 2kw solar, so enough power but 1 week cloudy the starlink was the power honk that after 3 days i started shutting it off manualny to save power and qhut off inverter...now on DC no problem running 24/7 under same conditions.
Running on DC makes roughly 1/3 as you can switch off inverter and minimize conversation losses.
Tought my inverter runs anyhow 24/7 but there is actually no need for it and starlink keeps it from going into standby mode. So DC conversation is a big plus.
Mounting it flat without motors mimizing downtime and helps a to get unobstructed view. Having it eg flat next to solar panels doesn't create shade while having it on the pole and angled dish does.

Running it on DC uses 1/3 of the power???? That sounds ridiculous, but if that’s your experience, fine.

We run our large inverter 24/7 as we have an electric galley, so the Starlink usage is a tiny blip. Thats said, our monitor rarely shows more than 40W for the Starlink + inverter, so not sure why you see 120+W - most of the time the motors aren’t running and we don’t turn on snow melt.

Disabling the motors and mounting it flat, or mounting it flat such that the pipe moves in air without tilting the dish, as well as converting to DC power and the like, are all optimisations that CAN be done.

But they don’t NEED to be done - the basic kit that you buy with a Starlink kit is just fine and works on a boat when marina berthed, anchored, or sailing along.

That's exactly what I want to know: does it usually work without Mobile Priority when being close to the coast?

Yes. How close depends on EXACTLY where you are. Look at starlink availability map on starlink website. Any black hex is "ocean" and requires priority data. Any blue hex (of any shade) is "land" and normal mobile will work without priority mobile.

Here is Cayman for example. The hexes are about 11 nm wide so as you can see how far offshore you can get varies significantly and comes down to the land vs the hex grid.

There are places you would be offshore less than 1 nm from the shore but for example leaving GeorgeTown heading north you could go almost 16 nm before you lost non-priority service.
