Which usb adapter for NMEA0183 and 2k to raspberry?

I want to join the AIS with my Pi and was wondering about alternatives. If I understood right, NMEA0183 requires an RS485 connector and nothing more. Any experience with the cheapo ebay connectors?

NMEA2000/CAN bus seems to be a more complicated matter.
