Re: WIFI offshore part two

Just tested Bearifi Outdoor AC with GLI.

Don't work as configured out of the box.

There is an app for GLi that SHOULD work, but I'm too lazy to download, install, and configure.

The Bearifi works with my Windows 7 Laptop. Good signal.

Might be just me, but with it running 1 foot away, I got an ear ache after a few minutes, put it on the roof, NOT next to your head. ( I have fillings about a 5ghz wavelength in size, may be a contributing factor).

The GLI works with Cell modem from either ethernet, or USB port.

Also tethering my cell phone to USB port.

It will scan for internet connected devices either on Wireless, or USB, or ethernet.

With Bearifi tethered to USB it could not recognize as an internet WAN as Bearifi could not connect without configuration, and could not configure Bearifi because it had no internet until configured.

So an app needs to be installed to work. (already have drivers in windows.)

SO currently I have.

1. GLI in cabin.

2. run antenna to cabin top.

3. Bearifi connected to laptop sharing WIFI

4. Cell Phone tethered to GLI, or directly to laptop.

5. Cell hotspot WIFI to GLI or laptop.

6. Cell Modem tethered to GLI or Laptop.

(So final step for offshore outside of Cell range, Cell Modem with external antenna, and amplifier, OR Satellite modem).

DH, this post is only for a thank you! I have a Ubiquity that came on our boat, and I've been nothing but overwhelmed. I'm moderately tech-savy, and persistent, but it's been over my head. And besides, I don't see open access points anymore, so I haven't made it a priority. But still, I'd like to at least have it do whatever it should do!

This write up is awesome. Beyond words. I think I can make this work.

A thousand thanks,

Harry

I used one of these for years, then a Mikrotik Groove. But I broke the antenna with a halyard and didn't bother to repair it, so I'm a little out of practice. I seem to recall some problems with captive portals.
Wish I'd seen this before I Trashed my Ubiquiti.

I then spent $137 on a https://store.rokland.com/collection...409-tf-antenna Which I'm pretty happy with.
