Any help identifying it?

I have come across and become the new owner of this sail boat. I have no idea what it is nor its Origen. Any idea and trail is more than appreciated.

Cheers!

Well, I'm stumped, but welcome aboard here anyway!

Oh, also, you may need to check that rudder post to be sure it is not bent.

Re: Any help identifying it?

G'Day Juanco, and welcome to CF. Nice looking hull, odd angle on rudder, and I have no idea what design she is! May I suggest that you fill out your public profile completely. Information about you and where you are is a big help in answering many questions that are posed. This is a world wide forum, and in the case of your question, knowing where the boat is can help guide thoughts about her origin.

Looks like she should be fun to sail, so good luck with your restoration.

Jim

Re: Any help identifying it?

If the hull is less than 35 years old and depending in which jurisdiction the hull was built, you have a fair chance of finding a Hull Identification Number (HIN).

Have a look at the top starboard/ top righthand area of the transom: be prepared to search about a 0.5 x 0.5 metre square. Start with the top right corner of the transom and work out where your 0.5 x 0.5 m square would be.

A HIN is an alphanumeric string (i.e. a mix of numbers and letters). Normally the numbers and letters are inset into the hull.

If you find a HIN, decoding it will give you the identity of the builder and the year the hull was laid.

Of course, if the hull was home built, it may not carry a HIN.

In what jurisdiction are you?

Re: Any help identifying it?

The boat is in Ecuador, the tail tells; the boat was originally sailed from Europe and left behind for the winter. The owner never showed and parts where stripped to pay the dock fees until it was dry docked and auctioned off. Might anyone point to a similar hull or design? Just to feed the imagination hamster and get some bearings.

Find the HIN.

Free HIN number Decoder for any Boat, Hull, or Vessel. EUROPEAN MARINE INC HIN Decoder

Particularly relevant to the US (but not entirely useless for a European boat):

Hull ID Numbers - BoatSafe.com

Relevant to the UK:

that looks a lot like a hobie 33. Hobie cat made a mono hull in the 80's looks like it.

Most Hobie 33's had a lifting keel with a small bulb. A few had a fixed keel but assume they still had the bulb, though.

Design looks European which coincides with its reported origin. No idea what it is though.

Not at all certain but she reminds me of the Olympic class keel boats from the 80's, that may be a place to start looking. Have my doubts about the 'sailed from Europe', shipped perhaps, but she appears to be an open boat so that would be quite a trip!

Looks narrow, and the cockpit looks like it's a racer.

Re: Any help identifying it?

Gorgeous (at least in her day)!

I share the comment about the angle of the rudder post. I think this is an optical illusion due to the rudder being off-center, but you don't want to replace the rudder in addition to all of the other concerns.

It would be interesting to see if you could chop off the cabin and make a 35' daysailer. While it looks like an Etchells or Soling, it's obviously got some accommodations.

Great project boat, presuming the original design was known to have good sailing characteristics.

Re: Any help identifying it?

Interesting the marina was stripping parts to pay dock fees but didn't take the folding prop. That may have had more value than some of the other things they did take.

Edit: Forgot to say she reminds me of a prior girlfriend. Beautiful lines, long and sleek BUT not quite all there!
