Bulge in keel

Hi fellow sailors
Strange happening on my 79 C&C 36 keel
Anyone have an idea? Imagine it's related to freezing but don't understand why there would be water in keel at that location. (Chunk of lead protruding)

Re: Bulge in keel

Where are you located and where is the bulge located in relation to the entire keel? Lacking this knowledge it appears a casting void filled with water through ingress or condensation. When it froze the water expanded and has caused the bulge. Could be a keel bolt pocket which is poured after the rest of the keel and it never bonded properly. Too easy to speculate without further information.

Re: Bulge in keel

I would strongly suspect corrosion, bolt head most likely. You have to get in there to check anyway, post pics when you do [emoji4]

Re: Bulge in keel

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, 79CC36.

What Jim & Chris said (freezing or corrosion).
