Re: Do you actually like sailing?

I think I should add I don't know why I love it. I have thought about at times but, other then the exercise, I haven't found an answer.

I do - if there are two hours spare and I am near the boat - I will go for a sail.

Me too. The boat is easy to sail and fun and most importantly easy to park, prerigged dock lines etc.

I totally love the sailing, the getting there and anchoring in nice spots is just a bonus.

Yes, we love it! Probably still have "new boat itis", but my wife and I've been sailing every weekend since we purchased the boat in January.

I think there is a sailing gene, either you have it or not.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

I absolutely love sailing...all the aspects of sailing which include working on the boat, planning ahead of time and en route, being on a liquid connection to the whole rest of the planet with no lines on the road, and having the rail in the water, watching a land mass disappear behind or appear ahead. And, yes I will untie the dock lines to go out and put the sails up rather than mill around elbow-elbow with tourists. Love the going, not the sitting.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

a. I kind of thought the question was in jest.

b. I single hand because that way I sail more.

c. No, I don't enjoy every annoying cross sea, hot day, or storm, but most rewarding things arn't all roses.

d. Judging from the number of boats that never move (ecept from the slip to the hard and back) your pole results left out the "I like the status symbol" catagory.

Nothing better than a boat FLYING with all sails aloft and a mustache under the bow.

To put it another way, sometimes I forget to eat.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

I have to admit that I am now finding that offshore sailing is taking over my 30 year long surfing itch. It’s like a whole big world waiting to be explored while still using the ocean skills I have accumulated over the past few decades.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

Yes. I usually like to have a destination in mind when I sail even if it is just another nearby harbor for a few days. But, if it looks like it might be a real nice sunset on the water I'll head out and take a look at it.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

I love sailing. Getting my home underway in a tight marina and dealing with all the prep work and "let's button her up" on the end aren't that much fun. I end up taking my sailing dinghy out way more often or getting my fix being on other boats. Much different experience getting an 8' boat underway than a 36'.

Re: Do you actually like sailing?

To me, it's ALL about the sailing. Nothing like plotting a course, getting the sails up for a long tack and just watching the wake go by. I can do it for days on end.

Of course I do equally look forward to a cocktail and having someone else cook dinner at the end of the trip... pete
