Yup, I've always sucked at taking tests. I either overthink the question or miss a key point. I got 10 out of 11 in the quiz. I'm a biologist, too. The one with the temperature graphs (to me) showed both cities with a range close to each other, but a slightly larger range in one. Then, when I got to the answers, I see I had mistook the reading of "about 25" for one of the cities, was actually closer to 35. And I had looked at them several times over. Just an observation about test taking for some of us and how it's used (and abused) to test actual knowledge.

I think most of the frequent posters on CF can ace this test. We are not a representative selection of society

FWIW: I (barely) passed.
Definitely more difficult and more interesting. I had to think about several of these and a few had to make an educated guess by eliminating the obvious wrong answers and choosing between the possible correct ones left over. Only got 38 correct.

When I was in college, a long, long time ago, there was a story going around about a test given by one of the profs. The first line at the top of the page said, "Read the entire test through before answering any of the questions."

The last line of the test said, do not answer any of the questions, just turn in a blank test form with your name on it. Legend has it that in a large class only one person got it right.

Nailed it. Woohoo.

Now, let's put this quiz on a SeaRay forum and see what happens

Re: How much do you know about science topics?

You answered 11 of 11 questions correctly.
See how your results compare with the 4,464 randomly sampled adults that took part in our national survey and review how you responded to each question. For more findings from the survey, read "What Americans Know About Science."

You scored better than 83% of the public and the same as 16%.

Well I guess I remembered a few things from O-chem, physics, and Biochem!

Re: How much do you know about science topics?

I got 10 out of 11.
Only one wrong - deforestation.
And I still believe, that as phrased, the answer is decrease in co2. There is no erosion if the forest is replaced by a different use. Erosion does happen if you take down the trees and leave the area denuded.

I'm pretty sure that this test is more of a reading test than a science test.

They got you. The effect of deforestation would be to increase CO2.

Re: How much do you know about science topics?

Fun. 11/11 on the first, but only 31 out of 41 on the second. So I'm above (American) average, but far from a genius .

35/41 for me with three answers that I knew but screwed up at the last second!

11 out of 11 for the first quiz.

35 out of 41 for the second quiz.

I got 10/11. Kinda embarrassed I missed the one I did. Oh well. Glad I went to college!
