The Cruisers (Prepper, Doer, Armchair or Otherwise) FutureMe Challenge

It always helps to set goals, right?

The Cruisers (Prepper, Doer, Armchair or Otherwise) FutureMe Challenge: Instructions

1) Get a glass of wine (or whatever) and sit around with someone you like to chat with and discuss the following questions. Or, keep your thoughts private and do this in your cubicle or at your nav station. Where will you be in 1 year? 2 years? 3 years? Where will your friends be in 1, 2 and 3 years? If you like, where will the crew of Estrellita 5.10b be in 1, 2, and 3 years?

2) Go to futureme.org* and write yourself an email answering those questions. Change the delivery date to Nov 1, 2015. Add this text to the end of your email: "Go to http://thegiddyupplan.blogspot.ca/20...mchair-or.html and report back!" Send this email.

3) Important: futureme.org will send a validation email to the address you used. You must click on the link to validate your request or the email will not be sent (in the future).

4) In 2 years, futureme.org will send your email to the address you specified. When you receive your email, click on the link and report back on our blog. How far off (or not) were you?

Carol and I took a bottle of wine, sat down and watched the sunset over Tahiti while writing our futureme email last night!

Gee to be young again! I don’t really having any plans beyond retiring next July. We been a live aboard for 16 years, so boating is not high on the list. I basically have done/reached my primary life goals/plans already. However, my wife has a long list for me, so tonight I will ask her what my future plans are?

Sure, blame it on the phone!

Last night my wife and I discussed her/our future plans. I was informed that we would continue living and cruise the PNW on the Eagle until October/November 2014 at which time, we will buy a motor home and travel down the Pacific Coast to at least the boarder. Stopping and visiting ports/marinas along the way as we have talked about moving the boat to the San Francisco, bay area as my wife wants to retire in a warmer sunnier climate, but she has not made up her mind. That is the reason for buying the motor home to travel. So in general for the next couple of years, we will join the snow bird crowd.

So we will see.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Great autocorrect. I know of at least a dozen people who have sent themselves emails to the future now. This will be fun (in 2 years).

At my age I don't even buy green bananas. I do what I want and enjoy whatever I am doing. Live for today because tomorrow may never come.

HA!

To derail my own thread, I think it is a weird cruising culture notion that:

a) real cruisers don't plan. First, I am a real cruiser therefore anything I do is something a real cruiser can do and also second, navigation *is* planning.

and

b) Planning somehow means that you aren't enjoying the current place you are. I'm enjoying the heck out of French Polynesia right now and enjoying dreaming about the future, all at the same time.
