5.8.4 crashes in Windows 10

I use Windows 10 on a Dell notebook and just upgraded OpenCPN from 5.8.2 to 5.8.4. OpenCPN 5.8.4 crashes immediately upon opening the "Welcome to OpenCPN" window - tried re-installing 5.8.4 - same problem. Then tried reverting to 5.8.2 which also crashes immediately - it did work before the attempted upgrade.

I also upgraded a Lenovo mini-desktop from 5.8.2 to 5.8.4 - that does work.

Any suggestions?

Re: 5.8.4 crashes in Windows 10

Start with an empty config file by renaming the existing one.
Next install plug-ins one by one for the case that ne of those does fail.

Re: 5.8.4 crashes in Windows 10

I renamed the config file - no change.

I un-installed openCPN through Windows Settings, then re-booted the computer and re-installed version 5.8.2 which had worked before I tried to upgrade to 5.8.4 - still crashes immediately after opening the main window and a couple of other windows - crashes too fast for me to read any messages.

This is on a Dell Latitude notebook which did a Windows update this morning.

Try bcn's advice again. Then read your opencpn log file to see if there was time to write an error. Then also try to remove your programdata/opencpn/plugins/ cache metadata and tarball files, incase there is an incompatible one.

Then try opencpn If it starts update and rebuild charts.

I uninstalled and re-installed OpenCPN 5.8.2 and 5.8.4 several times, and removed any related files I could find - still had instant crashes.

I finally installed version 5.6.2 which did work. I may do further research when I return from a short cruise (I foolishly did the upgrade the morning I was planning to depart...)
