Re: Android Development Underway

then I did not made myself quite clear, I got all and every of this charts which work happily on OpenCPN. My question was then more simple? Can I use this charts on MXMariner? cause it seems there is no way to install charts outside from the ones they mention on the site. thanx

alex2035..

I am not using MX-Mariner so I am not sure, but I am almost certain it accepts .bsb/.kap type rater charts. Perhaps through a conversion program?
The user instructions must have this detail.

Re: Android Development Underway

manimaul..

Does MX-Mariner have an option to download .bsb charts from other regions?
Do you use a translating device or read the .bsb charts directly?

Unless I am missing something and I could pull them myself, but havent seen any menu to do this (online manual). Thanks. alex
Alex,

I'm working on the Argentina chart set now and it looks like I will be able to include them in MX Mariner. Thanks for reminding me about these being available. I'll try to get them included in-app for download soon.

Thanks,

Will

Chart regions can be downloaded in MX Mariner. More details about each region download can be found on the website: Charts | MXMariner .

Alternatively, there is also a tool that is still in beta that will import BSBv3 charts into the MX Mariner format: http://matrixmariner.com/forum_attch/MXCart1.01beta.zip
(I do not document this tool on the website or documentation as it is still in beta)

Argentina Chart Issues

Many of the Argentinian charts have calibration issues. For example see screen captures in both OpenCPN and MX Mariner below:

The chart borders have not been defined in many of the chart headers. Consequently, quilting is not seamless. I am hesitant to make these charts available to download in MX Mariner this way. For now, please use the import tool I posted a link to in the last post if you'd like to have Argentina charts in MX Mariner.

Thanks,

Will

Great development, I'm eager to see it.

If you take code from OpenCPN you have to use the GPL license. Using BSD would be forbidden by its license, as it permits closed versions, AFAIK. I think is better for everyone, regardless, to use the GPL.

Will:

I got (legal!) Argentinian BSB's from SHN - Cartas Raster

Don't see the problem you mention, I'll send pics later.

Re: Android Development Underway

And here is more or less the same problem area are that you show above. It could be that these are newer charts as they are a bit different

Re: Android Development Underway

I stand up on dpons post, I dont see any problems you mention on BSB arg. charts, where did you get them? they should be official ones from SHN ( hidrographic naval service) , this are made in Oregon.USA from the official mylar masters.

Yes, many of the charts from SHN are fine. However, still many of the small scale ones do not have the PLY borders properly defined. This can be made workable in Opencpn because the power you have to customize what is displayed in the quilt.

So, for now please use Custom User Created Charts | MXMariner if you'd like Argentina charts in MX Mariner.

Thanks, Will

I hopefully soon plan on starting an open source library that will render vector charts for the osmdroid and/or mapsforge libraries. This library will most likely share some java versions of some Opencpn code. And hopefully with the authors permission I will be able to re-license this code LGPL or BSD so it can be included in any program.

That's the current plan,

Will
