Android osENC charts for openCPN - New Zealand

Just purchased openCPN version 5.2.8[81] for my new tablet.


I have downloaded the osENC plugin 4.3.2.6.


Under Charts/osENC Charts I have logged in to my o-charts account OK.


It shows no chart sets because I do not have any. All new Zealand osENC S63 charts are available free from the national government web site. You don't buy them from o-charts, you only buy the userpermits.



I have S63 charts working on openCPN on my linux desktop.


How can I generate a new hardware ID and download them for my tablet?

At this moment there is no S-63 support for Android OpenCPN.


The NZ move to use S-63 - different from the US using plain S-57 - is an argument to have the S-63 plug-in for Android as well. We are discussing it.



Not done with a simple finger snip however...


Ps.: the thread tiltle is not correct - no oeSENC for NZ. LINZ is issuing S-63 sets only.

S57 charts are easy to import. For example, free NOAA ENC. No plugin needed. So, if you can find them....

There's also the (somewhat out of date?) NZ BSB (raster) charts... if someone has them on the web.

There are no S57 charts available for New Zealand.
For some reason a little hard to understand they decided to make the vector charts available for free, but in the encrypted S63 format, which a) is currently not supported by OpenCPN on Android (it is supported on thedesktop computer platforms) and b) requires a non-free user permit to work (In this case that permit, not the charts, is what you can get from o-charts).

There are the free up to date (as of January 7, 2022) official NZMariner raster charts available through the chart downloader integrated in OpenCPN on all the platforms. These charts will at some point stop to be updated and the only official up to date product available will be the forementioned vector charts.

Can I put a request in for an S63 plugin for OpenCPN android.


I gather that this is not an easy task.



With the BSB raster charts being withdrawn this leaves the Android NZ community with no OpenCPN charts.
