Re: ATON display

I've checked the current version in PIM v1.2.19 . It seems to be working, in Windows, with Opengl and not. I can get ATon to show.

What OS and version are you using.

Incidentally, I have checked the code and do not find the TransmitterDan changes that are linked to, for converting radians to degrees. I do not know why. Perhaps someone else would know?

I did find a commit I had made in Aug 2020 to revert back to using wxDegtoRad

Ah I found it Tdan's change was made Target.cpp line 316

Re: ATON display

Are you planning to display meteorological data from ATON stations? this is pretty relevant!

Re: ATON display

I doubt this will happen in AISradar. This is a very simple plugin. Maybe it is more appropriate to show aton weather data as an option in Squiddio because that plugin already uses the internet for data.

You should try Squiddio. As weather data from Noaa bouys is already an option.

Re: ATON display

this must be implemented in the CPN itself when requesting an ATON object. I saw it in Rosepoint CoastalExplorer
in addition to meteorological data, water level data is also transmitted

A subtle correction

This meteorological data is not obtained by a "request" rather, it is transmitted as an AIS binary broadcast message (AIS Message Type 8) and it may be sent by a number of different types of AIS devices and not just limited to ATON's.

In addition to meteorological reports, there is a large range of data that may be transmitted over AIS as outlined in the following link

I believe OpenCPN currently parses some of these, in particular Inland Waterways messages.

This is an interesting example of "feature creep", which opens up a Pandora's box. What AIS binary messages, if any, should OpenCPN parse ? If OpenCPN parses AIS meteorological data, should it also parse weather alerts from Navtex transmissions, from NOAA weather alerts, from NOAA NDBC reports, from SITOR ship and buoy reports etc. And how are these features relevant to OpenCPN's primary goal of providing navigation and chartplotting capabilities.

Should these features belong in OpenCPN or in a plugin such as Squidd.io, AIS Radar, Hakan's Class A voyage data plugin or something else ?

Re: ATON display

I meant the object query function for AIS/ATON target.
It is better of course to teach CPN itself to display data.

See how CoastalExplorer displays public data from land and sea weather stations, buoys, weather alerts! Cool!

If this is done as a plugin, then this data should be combined in one plugin called "Weather Conditions" which also includes GRIB, NavText, etc.

Re: ATON display

As TO I like to finally report, that I could test the other day and confirm display of ATONs is working well. Please see attached a screen shot in the area of the windpark Nordergründe at the mouth of the river Weser in northern Germany.

You have to look carefully to see the ATON symbols at the corners of the wind park, obscured by the symbols of the windmills itself and their lights. At the lower left corner, there is a boat moored to one of the windmills. It's a high speed craft transferring technicians currently moored to one of the windmills.

Everything's working fine now. Thanks very much to all who were involved here.
