Here, in France, at least two sailors have the same problem with the same message on W XP with 2.3.

It seems that the installation goes well but OpenCPN can not start.

All,

I just tested a clean install on a Windos XP SP3 system (at home, no GPS).
OCPN 2.3.0. CM93 chart set

OCPN works fine, plugins work fineand I encountered none of the problems mentioned by the others.

Peter
One, of two French sailors, is in W XP SP2. On the advice of SethDart, he followed the solution proposed in the post 661 of the thread Beta test/ Technicalby BdbCat and installed the software:

Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86).

That was enough to solve the problem.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Smile Open CPN 2.3

My home computer downloaded and ran the program, but my boat computer would download, but not open the programs, They both have XP pro, So it seems to be an individual computer thing,

This worked for me, [Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable ] I tried downloading several other programs besides Open CPN, the Download worked ok, but the programs would not run. After i did the Microsoft thing all the programs that would not run, work fine now.

Good Luck

Same problem (Crash)

I have the same problem. I update my OpenCPN 1.3.x.
No problem with the setup (uninstall 1.3.x and install 2.3.0) on win xp sp3.
I download Détails du téléchargement : Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)
No positive effect.
I test on win 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 next time.
Have a solution for xp ?

Le Meuille,
in your case it could be something a bit different - try removing your config directory. If you take the time to keep backup and in case it solves your problem post the logfile and opencpn.ini it could help us trace the problem for the future.

Smile Correct

Yes, It's correct.
I delete "C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\opencpn" directory, uninstall opencpn and re-install.
All's ok.
thank's for your response and reactivity.
Long live to opencpn

Dimmer on Open Cpn

I have kind of a Dilema, I have Open CPN working fine now, thanks to you good people on this forum, but i took my boat for a ride yesterday to check out the newer version 2.3, and found that everything worked fine except the Color Scheme [Dimmer], The Border and Tool Bar Dim ok, but the Charts Stay Bright, and are annoying when running at night,it worked fine on my home Monitor, but not on the boat Monitor. I had taken my Boat Computer home to down load 2.3, and used my Monitor at home rather than drag the one off the boat.
So it seems to be a Monitor problem, and not a software problem. I can Manualy turn the dim the Monitor on the Boat, but that is a hassel. My Home monitor is a Proview and the Boat Monitor is a Acer.

My question is is there an adjustment in the Computer That can make this work right.

Thanks

hope I can get an answer here, tried a couple of other spots on the forum site.

I have downloaded source for 2.3.0 and having no problem building main software, runs fine.

I am most interested in building and developing plugins. Following the instructions on the site doesn't build plugins that work either in the newly built debug version of the main software or in the standard release of the program.

Any comments from someone who has successfully done this would be great.

Thanks

JonPan....

Have you tried to build and test the demo_pi PlugIn found in the git repository?

This demo_pi is intended as a skeleton to help jump start PlugIn development for folks such as yourself.

More info on your environment, and detail regarding problems you encounter will be very useful to the Forum.

Thanks, and good luck
Dave

Dave

Thanks for getting back to me.

I did find the problem, it appears an old version of wXWidgets 2.8.9 had left some environment settings that were confusing the plugins at run-time only and only the plugins, the main software ran fine, that is what threw me.

All cleared up now, building running and debugging plugins and main code.

I cannot tell you how stoked I am to get the plugin system. Two years ago I installed an off the shelf waterproof and sunlight readable touchscreen on my boat and wrote some instruments and nav software to run on it I sailed over 400 miles using it with full control of the laptop and software in the cockpit, even worked in a rain storm.

I have already ported a number of the instruments to wxWidgets and will be integrating them and the touchscreen controls into OpenCPN.

If any of this is of interest or if there is any other work I can help with please let me know.

Best Regards

Jon

I have never had to do that myself, so you can find the instructions as easy as I.

For CVS make sure you have cvs installed, then try this:
cvs -z3 -dserver:anonymous@opencpn.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/opencpn co -P opencpn

Tell us how you get along!

Hi Thomas,
does that mean that one of the new Tablet PC like Archos 101 using Android 2.2 (which I think is the future in telephony/PC tablet!!!) as operating system should be able to run OpenCPN?
Thanks fyr as I look at this new toy to replace a very expensive wireless screen.

Hi All,
I've been using OpenCPN for a while but new to the forum. Not sure how to report a possible bug, but I'll give it a go here.

The NMEA RMB output for the autopilot seems to only be reporting SOG not velocity towards destination, knots or VMG.

Hope this helps, rectification would help me.
By the way GREAT WORK GUYS !!!! keep it up.
