Cannot enable OpenGL (option greyed out) on Linux

I am running (or trying to run) opencpn on an archlinux system but I don't get the option to enable OpenGL. The option is always greyed out.


I tried changing the relevant OpenGL options in opencpn.conf, but they are overwritten when opencpn starts up.


My system is a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 powered by an Intel i7-2720QM and with an nVidia GF108GLM [Quadro 1000M] GPU. OpenGl works fine in other applications and all the usual tests seem ok (glxinfo, glxgears, etc.)



Yet, opencpn clearly thinks my system is not opengl capable and turns that option of. Is there a way to check what opencpn's startup script is actually checking? The output to console does not mention any failed test, yet the opencpn.conf file is silently rewritten.
