Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Sorry for my delayed replies I often don't have internet.

I merged #9. I will review the changes over the next few days as I sail to next island.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Hi,

We are starting our crossing of the Pacific in a week:big grin: Is there a place to download the fix for windows 10 crashing after input of second sight?

Thanks, Deep

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Regarding the precession calculations,

I really am glad you found this. The math is a bit much to digest, but I trust it works, and improves star sights.

I used a very simple method for star positions which I agree is wrong, I didn't realize the error could be 13 miles or more!

I still await feedback for moon shots, as well as lunar time corrections!

I've just run some moon shot stellarium tests with a Windows 10 build from today's git master.

See attached image - no complaints about the accuracy ... or anything else for that matter!

Did you measure the moon with your sextant?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

I built it from source code, cmake, visual studio & a lot of trial & error ... I'm no software expert ... maybe Sean or rgleason could help ...?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

slackie501, Does entry of second fix work? Mine crashes OpenCPN on second entry of a fix. This is a prior bug that has reappeared. Povl fixed it when he made the tables more accurate. Sean merged his pull request, but the bug seems to still happen.

Note when I compiled Povl's version the entry of the second fix was fine.
Therefore I am not uploading thee file to file thingie yetl.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

If I somehow fixed the "second fix" bug, that wasn't on purpose! I was only trying to change the star position code - plus a minor bug concerning re-loading previous sights after restarting OpenCPN.
I will be at sea for the next 7-8 weeks (in the Southern Ocean), with limited internet connectivity and no build environment - so I'm afraid I won't be able to do anything more with the plugin code until mid-May!

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

rgleason - no, mine is still taking multiple fixes ... but I e-mailed a copy of my dll to Deep, who is reporting that it crashes on second fixes, so I agree the bug is still there, but don't know why mine's still working ok ...

If I remember, Sean had a code update that sorted the second fix bug prior to povl's update - maybe that got lost in the last merge ...??

povl - good luck Down South - been there & I'm sure you know it's great sailing, but no place to code :-)

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

rick,

Can you check out an older revision to fix this second sight bug?

I can't understand it because I just merged his star changes, nothing to do with the list control.
