Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

P_dub what versions of Opencpn and Cel_Nav are you using again? Can you check to make sure of the version numbers? And can you check to make sure that at least two fixes can be entered? And also advise on details if it fails, please. Thanks so much.[/QUOTE]

celestial navigation -pi-.-ov4.1.1317
Not better also.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Celestial_Navigation 2.0 which is found on this Download
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/celestialnav.html

Does not work with Opencpn Version 4.2, 4.4 or 4.8 on my Windows 10 machine.
I believe it should be fixed or removed.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

P_Dub. It is unclear to me if you are using Windows, if you are using Cel_Nav2.0, if it loads without bombing Opencpn, and if you can enter more than 2 sights.
At this point I am assuming the answer is NO! Please advise.

1.- Windows 10 pro edition.
2.- crash the system.
3.- does no calculation
4.- in other words a F...up.
am I clear enough?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

The plugin (at least when compiled directly from git, I didn't check the precompiled versions) is fully functional under Linux.

I really suspect that the crashing issue in Windows could be easily debugged by someone having the compilation environment and knowledge about how debugging works. It's a bit sad that such a minor issue prevents everyone on Windows using this plugin.

Is there some step by step howto documenting how to install the entire build system and how to build the plugin ? I could set up a virtual Windows machine and try to help...

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Ok, I happen to have a Windows 10 Professional virtual machine (Build 15036.rs2_release.170317-1834).

I downloaded OpenCPN 4.8.0 from the official site: https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/info/downloadopencpn.html

Installed it on my machine, chose language French, everything else the defaults.

I downloaded Celestial Plugin from the official site: https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/plugins/celestialnav.html

Installed it on my machine, default option.

Launched OpenCPN, settings, activate celestial navigation plugin, ok, ok.

Clicked on the plugin icon, it launches correctly. Tried to enter a new view, it seems to draw correctly.

So, what is the problem ?

What I need to know is if I use the exact same versions of software as you, and if this is the case, the problem might be on your PC (remember that I installed on a pristine machine).

If you can, it would be useful to:
- backup your opencpn data (config, waypoints whatever)
- uninstall opencpn and all the plugins
- manually remove all the opencpn folders you might have
- follow the exact steps I did
- report back.

I'll try to build the latest version from git but it doesn't look very easily to setup the build environment, so it might take a while to have it working.

But if in the end I do not reproduce the problems you and others have, it won't help much.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Stelian, I will try a fresh install of opencpn 4.8.0 and celnav2.0 downloaded from the website, but it will have to be in 2 days.

I am upgrading my compile with transmitterdan's batchutils on github, and updateing cmake to 3.9 and checking poedit version, but the windows compile setup is found by going to the manual from opencpn.org and search on compile windows. Thankyou so much for testing & help!

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

I found the issue, as I expected it was an obscure little bug related to how end of lines are handled on Windows.

Can you please test the binary here: http://popies.net/tmp/celestial_navigation_pi.dll
(compiled for opencpn 4.8.0, just install Rick's latest version and overwrite the dll with mine)

The source fix is here: https://github.com/stelian42/celestial_navigation_pi

Time to sleep now.

Hi Stelian et al. ...

This sounds great. However, have you tried to enter MORE THAN ONE SIGHTING??

From your previous post I saw only one line (sighting) was drawn. That worked perfectly always. ...

However your last post suggests, that you tried more and that you found the problem (which seems to be just Windows-related).

If so, could someone help me to get the executable (installable) pi to me somehow, to test it on my system as well (and use it of course....) :-)

This would be great, as this is - in my opinion a very useful plugin (besides all the others from Sean) ....

Thanks again for all your great work - a - very - happy user of OpenCPN....

Best regards, Uwe
