Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

This has been resolved. The issue is that the MAC 2.0 Version of this plugin needs to be updated to 2.3! Thank you David Burch and Povl Abrahamsen.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Clarification:
  • Windows Celestial_Navigation_pi 2.3 is OK.
  • Mac Celestial_Navigation_pi 2.0 needs to be updated to version 2.3 which incorporates Povl Abrahamsen's corrections and improvements.
In the future we need to update all platforms possible to the most current version to avoid confusion.

Are there any Mac users who can update and compile seandepagnier's celestial_navigation_pi for Mac and add the release for 2.3 to their repository?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Regarding accuracy testing: 2 users and 2 programmers have recently tested version 2.3 and found it accurate. Version 2.0 is not as accurate and should not be used.

Many thanks to Povl Abrahamsen, Dave Register and David Burch for their knowledge and guidance in bringing this to a resolution from all of us who enjoy the use of this software.

I have a specific question, at some point the DR Tab was added. I think it might have something to do with a Sumner Line, but don't really know what calcs are being done with it. Does anyone know and can explain?
The manual needs to be updated with this, so we are looking for a brief description. Thank you

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

"DR Shift"

When a DR Shift with values > 0 is entered the Circle of Position will shift accordingly, the “Fix” button will not compute and the Fix must be done manually. The DR Shift is most useful when you are trying to correct a bad sight?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

David Burch reports that the Mac version 2.3 compiled by Peter Tulp works properly on 3 sights. His pdf is attached. Many thanks to David and Peter.

David also reports that the Mac version (both 2.0 & 2.3) has an annoying habit of locking up OpenCPN 4.8.6, but on restart things are ok. If this can be fixed it would be wonderful.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Celestial_Navigation_pi version 2.3 is now available to Windows & Mac on the Opencpn Downloads page. (Linux to follow soon.)

The accuracy of the this version has been double checked a number of times by many people.

Also David Burch (Starpath Navigation) has created some excellent videos for using the plugin using altitude, azimuth and lunar techniques. These can be found in the Celestial_Navigation_pi Manual.

Of course it does not. OpenCPN 4.99 uses a completely different set of libraries and is intended for developer testing only - it is not released for a reason.
