Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

It is READY NOW, and should be done NOW.

Pavel, this plugin must be updated for v4.8.6!!! because Celestial Navigation 2.0 is INACCURATE and using incorrect SIMRAD Star Tables !! Povl Abrahamsen updated the tables and improved calculations for earth perturbations a long time ago

I believe perturbations are celectial gravitational effects, not wobble, which I believe is something else related to greenland ice.

Please update for Opencpn v 4.8.6 Rocks are hard.

Forget v4.99 Opencpn

What do you mean by "must be updated for v4.8.6"?
What rocks do you talk about?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Pavel, the version here in launch pad
  • opencpn-plugin-celestial 2.0.0-0~xenial1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
  • opencpn-plugin-celestial 2.0.0-0~trusty1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
  • opencpn-plugin-celestial 2.0.0-0~precise1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
is very old and incorrect and should be removed now.
It leads to inaccurate fixes. If you don't want to provide the current accurate Celestial_Navigation_pi 2.3 which works, has been verified by 4 different people and does provide good sights and fixes because you are too busy, that's fine with me.

PS:The problem was recently re-discovered. See earlier posts.

While you are at it, please remove SAR because that has a dangerous interface problem so it should not be used. It should be removed from download.
  • opencpn-plugin-sar 1.1.1-0~xenial1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
  • opencpn-plugin-sar 1.1.1-0~trusty1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
  • opencpn-plugin-sar 1.1.1-0~precise1 Pavel Kalian (2016-03-02)
As I said, Rocks are hard.

So nothing to do with "update for v4.8.6", you just want new build in the PPA, do I understand you correctly?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Oh I am sorry Pavel, I don't speak linux yet. Yes please an update of the PPA for Opencpn v4.8.6 (wxWidgets 3.1.1) to be updated to Celestial Navigation_pi 2.3 "PPA"

PSS How would you prefer that I write it?

Thank you.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

Rick...
I'm getting totally lost here. Do you want this plugin to be updated to version 2.3?
Or do you want something completely different?

Pavel...

CN plugin v 2.3 is available in github.

Please update the CN plugin build from 2.0 to 2.3 on the PPA using the current o4.8.x rules/recipes.

That's all.

Thanks
Dave

Should have written wxwidgets 3.0.2. What a screwup! Sorry.

Thanks Dave.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

I'm having fun using this plugin. I still can't get a solid fix but I'm working on it. I have 2 Sextants and normally get the same error. Using an Artificial Horizon. Thanks for a great program and I'll keep you up-to-date on how it's working out.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

I need some help resolving these new errors

"undeclared identifiers"
"identifier not found"
in order to get celestial_navigation building again with Plugin Manager.
A little help or direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

It might be nice but does not do the job like I said. It is much better with Nav 32 and much easier to use once you get use to it. If you want to calculate sights to compare with those in some books the result are the same and don't forget the visible sky and a possibility to choose what you want to use. If you desire to go back before 2000 then change the time in your computer back to say 1990 and then bingo. I have done many and the result are exact like if you would use the haversine formulae.
Good luck.

P_Dub, so please explain how you suggest we use it a little further. Is it to be used in conjunction with Cel_Nav plugin, or just standalone and forget the plugin?

Re: Celestial Navigation Plugin Redux

The plugin would be nice, but it might not be possible to do so. But, if a stars and planets can be presented like you can see it in visible sky, then maybe many would apprciate. Thanks for the effort.
Regards.
