Chart Magnetic Variation?

Here's a hypothetical situation;

I'm NOT using OCPN as a direct chart plotter.

I'm working with NOAA Chart 12270 (on OCPN) and setting a "Route" between buoy R "84" to R "84A".

When I use "measure" to see the compass direction it says "008" degrees. The figure of 008 degrees doesn't take into consideration the Variation of 11 degrees West. The correct compass course would be 19 degrees.

How do I reconcile this so that if the Route was followed by using a compass I'd reach my destination of buoy 84A?

Is there a way to automatically add compass "variation" into OCPN?

No, but there is a plugin that will show you the current declination, and then you need to make the adjustment in your head, taking your ships deviation table into account. Having the tool output declination adjusted magnetic headings is meaningless, since your deviation is unknown.
