That's a good point Leo, but I think integration isn't advanced enough to meet this user's technical abilities?

Algarve,

"Send to GPS" when you right-click on a route is for transferring the route via a serial port to another device that is able to receive routes on its serial port.

For example, say you have a Furuno multi-function display and want to transfer routes and waypoints back and forth from OpenCPN.

thanks, it can be a handy diagnostic tool. i'm starting to have some fun with python. i'm working on a new version that monitors gpsd also. and, separately working on a instrument display much like polarcom.

(newbie, here) I've been converting the USACE scanned charts of the Illinois Waterway into usable raster format. the issue I'm running into is that MapCal II only seems to calibrate charts if they're north-up orientation. The seaClear site claims that skewed and rotated maps can be calibrated, but the manual says scans must have the lat/lon lines parallel to the edges. And when I calibrate a chart that's not north-up, I get an error message that the E/W or N/S seems to be reversed , and it refuses to save.

Any ideas?

Bluegillboy,

There is a parameter, i think it is SK, to set the skew angle. Try it out and see if it makes a difference for you.

You will find info in this forum, read though this thread (Charts), and also:
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ion-32337.html

Also, check out his site originating from discussions in this forum.
MapCal Utilities

Basically you write a command in the comment field in MapCalII:
BSBHDR CED/SE=2005,RE=43,ED=2009
BSBHDR KNP/SD=MEAN LOW WATER SPRINGS,PP=-23

The first BSBHDR line will add a line to the BSB header equal to CED/SE=2005,RE=43,ED=2009
The second BSBHDR line will superseed the default values for KNP/SD and KNP/PP with the specified values.

You can use the same method to add a skew value
Try:
BSBHDR KNP/SK=30
for 30 degrees skew angle.

All of this, of course, assumes that you use MapCalII to create header files for making BSB headers with the mc2bsbh package and libbsb package to make bsb files. All is described in the links above.

Good luck
Jonas

the prob is that MapCal II keeps giving me a "Calibration appears to be reversed. Make sure that N/S and E/W are correct" error. Even after I enter the SK in the edit chart infomation screen. So I can't save the calibration which means I can't convert to BSB/KAP.

Why does MapCal keep throwing that error whenever skew or rotation is over a few degrees away from north-up?

If you are sure you did everything right and this is indeed a MapCalII bug, then send a mail including a scan of the chart to the author of Seclear at XX.seaclear@sping.com, replace XX with 06.

Olle, the author, may consider to fix that. There has been another Swedish chart that faired well with adding a skew angle although that particular chart was possible to reference using MapCalII.

Are you talking of the old PDF raster charts ?
Maybe these charts could be rotated before using Mapcal II (with GIMP for example).
But it could be more interesting to use recent USACE IENC vector charts you can get here

yup. these are the PDFs posted by USACE. i've got the enc vector charts, but the PDFs have much more information on them. i rotated each PDF to be north up, calibrated them with MapCalII, and they work. but because they're rotated, some are hard to read.

but if i don't rotate them to north up, MapCalII won't calibrate them.

catch 22.

Hello, is there a way I can get one of this rotated chart to try to calibrate it? Any www link?

Ciao, Marco.

Just give MapCal a miss, and handcraft your template file for tif2bsb, including SK=37.23 (or whatever the correct value is). Instructions are somewhere in this thread.
