Want to keep this under the chart thread so others may benefit. Currently using CM93-2 for offshore work. Been invited to crew from Rio Dulce to Panama on friends boat. Was wondering if there are any chart sourcs (dont mind paying for them if they are supported) for waters from Guatemala, Nicaragua and out islands, Costa Rica, and Panama. He is currently using a CP180i with latest updates so CM93-3 which are not supported in OCPN. Any other chart sources as I would like to test OCPN vs CP180i for the voyage????

Best regards and thanks

The only freely available chart for this area, that I know about, is the Columbian S57 sample vector chart. Download link on this page: Chart sources | Official OpenCPN Homepage. This is however a small scale chart for offshore navigation in a scale of 1:1.000.000.
There should be old Maptech and/or Softcharts ( BSB 3 or earlier) charts available for the area, on the second hand market. Perhaps on ebay?

Thanks Thomas:

Took a look at it and its interesting. Combined with the Cuban generated KAP file referenced from this list, provides some greater level of detail then what I currently have. Much appreciated.

Brazilian Charts

Hi
it looks like Brazil gives away their raster charts. They can be downloaded from this link.

Go to this link

https://www.mar.mil.br/dhn/dhn/index.html

Click on Cartas Nauticas on left, then click on Cartas Digitais on the top, then click on Cartas Náuticas Raster.

Does anyone here have the know-how to download all these files at once, rather than one at a time?

There is a link at the bottom of the page to another set of river charts.

Cheers'

George,

I have that link (and many more) on the page in my signature line.

But I was not aware of the river charts on that site. I found them. After I download and test them, I'll add that link with instructions on my website.

I also see they rearranged the pages a little, so I'll adjust my instructions for the raster charts accordingly.

Thanks,

-dan

To download all charts in one go, try this
Code:
#!/bin/sh

wget -r https://www.mar.mil.br/dhn/chm/cartas/download/cartasbsb/

cd www.mar.mil.br/dhn/chm/cartas/download/cartasbsb/

unzip "*.zip"

rm -r *.zip *.gif *.jpg *.htm *.html
Copy to a text file and make executable. Stick the scrip, for example, in your $HOME directory. All the KAP & BSB files will at the end, be contained in the "cartasbsb" directory. Rename and move to where you keep your other charts. Even the river charts will be included.

Hi Thomas

I pasted your code into a text file and named it 'script.exe'
When I run it (in winxp) I get a command/dos window that flashes like there's a cursor moving around real quickly, but then it just hangs like this forever.

What do you mean about putting in my $Home directory? I ran the script in my root drive (C:\)
Do I need to create a directory called 'cartasbsb' before hand?

Thanks

George

Aha..... The easiest way in your case is probably a capable download manager. Search Google for "download manager". Point it towards the web address in the script.

You might want to try that in conjunction with CM93

A scrutiny of CM93 - 2010 ver. updates.

CM93 May 2010 took two days to download all of 10 sections but is now
successfully replacing my older version. But REALLY,ist it totally updated or just a date change? A fast ferry pier in my home town was lenghtened considerably at least as far back as 2002 and is still not updated in this 2010 version.
Perhaps some of my fellow boaters could check it out in THEIR areas.
Who is actually doing this updating?
