They certainly do, but they are not licensed to sell them to anyone.

As I stated, I received a negative reply from them when I asked.

I own these Wavy Line charts in MapTech BSB4.
Can I convert my Wavy line BSB4 to run in OpenCPN ?

Hey Mark,

MapTech is one of the companies that did not reply to me when I asked if the charts could run on OpenCPN.

If you find a solution to this question you will certainly be my big hero.

I'm not positive because my head is still spinning from trying to wade through all the information in this thread but as was so gently pointed out to me earlier here, the OpenCPN wiki, or user guide has a list of all supported formats.

And I think that if someone has cracked the BSB4 conversion, they have been quiet about it.

Meanwhile I've got my wife (who is the organized one on this team) to start scanning all the Pavlidis charts and we will convert them to Kap for personal use. These will be for our personal use along with his excellent guides which we gladly shell out the bucks for.

Take all this with a grain of salt as I'm a nubee in the chart conversion also. Hopefully the old hands will give more detailed response.

Cotemar..

BSB4 maps are not compatible with OpenCPN presently.

ANY screen display which can be copied as a screen dump can be
converted to .kap format compatible with OpenCPN.

Is there a BSB4 viewer available somewhere? Did a BSB4 viewer come on the disk with the wavy line charts. And last, where is the best place to buy the wavy line charts in BSB4 format?

New OCPN user here - the program is great, runs sweet! I live in the US Virgin Islands, and the free NOAA charts run out just east of here (where we want to go of course!). I've not found much in the way of "free" Caribbean electronic nav charts on the web. I use Imray paper charts extensively in the region and own most of them. I have a small scanner, and have scanned in four 8 1/2" x 11" sections of one, pasted them together and saved the image as a tif file. Am I understanding correctly that I can now run the TIF/BSB/KAP conversion routines, assign geo-references, and use this in OpenCPN?

I've communicated with Imray, and they only sell their charts in a proprietary electronic format, along with their own navigation program. Any other options/ideas I should consider? Thanks, and once again great work on the application...I worked as a Project Manager on several software development projects a few years back, and can well appreciate how much work goes on "behind the curtain" to get the programs we see into production!

Hello Brian, some people report gaining access to an industrial size scanner to accelerate the digitalisation process. I've also heard there are quite recent CM93 version 2 files floating around that do cover the Carribean.

Why not ask Imray to sell you a set of their Iolaire/Carib charts in the format they use earlier, the HDR/pcx format? The full chart picture can be extracted from these files and then geo referenced. Instructions are in the wiki.
Nautical Publications GmbH -Arnis published a full set of BSB charts in the late nineties, covering the eastern Caribbean and compatible with OpenCPN. Maybe you can get in touch with them, though I don't know if hey are still in business.

Hi all..

Look what I just found for my Fugawi ENC! A FREE Google Earth plug-in which allows simultaneous .kap and GE views in a split, movable screen. A MUST for OpenCPN surely?

Hey Sinbad7

Thanks for the heads up - lets hope the OpenCPN developers are on-the-ball and that they see this.

I am no programmer but if this plug-in is FREE how hard can it be to adapt it to run on OpenCPN - Most of the coding is already done

It cannot be rocket science surely

Any thoughts - views or opinions from bdcat would be welcome

Anybody using Google for commercial purposes must pay a high user fee.
It's only free for non commercial, personal use.

The Fugawi plug-in is also experimentally working on providing overlays, map to GE and v.v. Not working well at the moment and no aligning facilities. Still!!

Had a second look today using the Fugawi map to GE overlay and it is actually quite good.

Must have made a mistake the other day.. Still ca'nt adjust the overlay position relative to GE but the alignment seems good.

Geo-referencing Polynomials Question

I have a need to create a kap file to feed to a program/application that *only* uses the geo-referencing polynomials (WPX ... PWY). It does not use the REF/ parameters at all. I know that GPS-Marco created a alpha mc2bsbh addon for creating the geo-referencing via a -p parameter. The chart in question has printed on it that WPG84 co-ordinates must be moved xx minutes South and yy minutes West in order to plot them on the chart.

What steps should I take to create such a kap file that has the correct geo-referencing polynomials in the fiile. I quess the unknown info I need is, does the "mc2bsbh -p" function include the Lat and Lon shifts in its calculations?

TYIA,

Mark

Mark.

If this is a one off perhaps Marco can help you. Otherwise I'd change to software compatible with .kap normal formats in the long run.
