Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Will...
So far we have downloaded the whole NGA library and are done calibrating the base charts. All the files available via http, ftp or rsync.
The calibration data is held in a database and a ruby server backend generates the KAPs.
All the data and code is available at https://github.com/ngacharts
I'm half way through the solution for cutting-out and calibrating the insets.
I was going to contact you re mxmariner integration when I'm done anyway, so if you are in a mood to work on it now, just drop me an e-mail as it's probably a bit too techie to be interesting for anybody else...

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

just an interesting sidenote for somebody out there ..While it works fine for these,Changing the DTM in oldCHS kaps does not work-t'was just an experiment anyways. It might explain why these charts were originally calibrated by adjusting each point to agree with WGS84..it might be that bsb version is different. The header is a bit...

Having fooled around using Will's tools trying to convert a few NGA charts to gemf unsuccessfully, I am delighted in his apparent interest!

I had no problem using a DTM of 100,100 on a random chart, 3062B1.KAP.
Interesting also because of a SK=90.0. What exactly did you test?

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Thomas,my fool-around chart here.My problem might be that I picked a plan to play with...The interesting thing is,the Plys move per the DTM!
I've tried moving the DTM field inside the header ,but here, you have a go!

341002KAP.doc

ps yes,I know 3062B1PittLake...!I de- skewed that to quilt it-but I've only been up there twice and maybe never will get the joy of my labour...

I fail to see the problem. Of course the PLY:s move with the DTM, everything moves. Just as a test I applied a DTM = 50.0,50.0. The result below. The moved chart is N & E of the original.

(Typically!),it's the first one I tried and I tried it all different ways, from originals, too.

BUT,so far,any other kap I try shifts properly. I'm glad it's apparently a problem that is particular to me and this chart.Another lonely cross birdbrains must bear, across this sea of tears,I guess

Happy

Did you run "bsbfix" after changing the kap?
Did you run "force full database rebuild"?

I could recreate a view similar to yours, if I didn't run bsbfix.
This is after running bdbfix. Original + DTM adjusted.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Thomas, yes, all of that...differenteditors HxD hex editor...bsbfix applied or not....OPCN 2.5 and newest beta portable.I am just taking it over to the other laptop here...and the same there.

I increased DTM to 59,59 which just gives me a black box at the shifted location on both laptops...say,I'll upload it as it is now and you can do a compare?
this is "59,59,no bsbfix.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

something odd?I can see the thumbnail just fine in the chartbar.

more illogical ideas tried(because editing other DTMs hasn't been a problem)...I even took away a TM chart out of the folder that covers the area at a smaller scale just in case....this ,after unquilting etc tried.
...per bsbfix, the which may just be a curious superstition on my part, given a decent text editor...what it really does for me,is:
if it spiels data in the cmd window,I know I've done wrong!and can save the time of "loading" in O.But your kapview (usingn bsb2tif) will do the same. But this doesn't happen often anymore.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Hi,

in the last days 55048 (Bosporos) was changing the status several times and it appears now as "locked".

This chart is composed by two panels (same scale) and can been processed as a Panel A (main) and Panel B (inset) - not exact in the terms how the charts have been characterized.

In this case the chart appears with panel B "onshore" - no gpx applied to cut that part off in quilting. I would have preferred to wait until we can go for the composed charts before publishing that type of charts.

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Is somebody locking charts? Though, there's no doubt without locking em,it could get as annoying as wikipedia ...

Well my chart view degenerated into yours, with a separation of the chart picture from the PLY polygon. I had never seen that before!
After mucking around I think I have found what caused it, but I still can't pinpoint it in the code.
The line "GD=NAD83", is the bad guy. Change this in the header to NAD27 or better WGS84(which is more or less equivalent) and go through the motions again and check the result!

Re: Charts II: NGA - 2700 Charts

Well Done,Thomas!
It works.
We,-well,I mean you, interpreting seagull cluckings, have found a very strange pimple of a bug!
The same strange thing can be replicated on another CHS NAD83 kap (353801)...I don't know think it'll ever pop up in these NGAs as NAD83! But someday,somewhere...?

Cool, what chart area are you interested in? I'll see if I can get a gemf compilation together for you.
