Re: Climatology

Starpath has some good current data links that are almost realtime
https://www.starpath.com/currents/
Part way down the page.
for example

HF-Radar Coastal Current Measurements

Also https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/hfradar/

This page show 18 week eddies in the southern North Atlantic
OARNW 2013 Trip Notes: Row Boats in Ocean Currents
They change too frequently to add to climatology, but it is useful to consider how to include this information in weatherrouting.

Re: Climatology

Here is a good summary map of Atlantic Currents, which would be useful in considering routes. Maybe we could find more complete summaries for the world and just have it as a static jpg file in Cliimatology, along with Shipping route traffic volume.

Re: Climatology

It would be very nice to get climatology working in ov50. Sean, I have created a PR which changes appveyor.yml here

Re: Climatology

Hello Sean,

Didg confirmed to me today that the file current2.gz that happened during the 39 initial downloads is a bad file. In fact, it contains a html file.

It seems to me that the installer version of Climatology, which went live for O4.99, should contain the data files as it was for previous versions of OpenCPN.

Re: Climatology

See this please. There are other bad files too.
https://github.com/seandepagnier/cli...y_pi/issues/52

The only way to get it working now is to download the Data file from Sourceforge manually and extract it to gz.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ope...limatology_pi/

CL-DATA-1.0.tar.xz

We need this file to be expanded and copied into the SourceForge directory
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ope...i/CL-DATA-1.0/
overwriting all the files that are there. Then perhaps the downloads will work properly.

I have been able to get it working, but sometimes it is difficult.

Re: Climatology

I think the files must be fully expanded and not be in gz format.
Also I believe that climatology no longer can read alll *.gz data!!!!

I just tested the data some more.

Re: Climatology

Hello Sean, Dave, All,

It was not necessary to put, online, a version of this plugin, for O4.99, knowing in advance that the downloading of the data would be difficult and even impossible.

This does not give a good idea of OpenCPN. Pfuuuu ....

As long as this problem has not been solved, remove this plugin from the page:
https://opencpn.org/OpenCPN/atp/48fb3bOH/5plugs.html

I hope this problem can be resolved quickly, because this plugin has an impact on the Weather-routing plugin. For beginners concerting Weather-Routing, the dysfunction of Climatology will have an insurmountable consequence on confidence in Weather-Routing.

Files aren't the problem, sourceforge is. For advertising or mirror reasons sometime sourceforge silently replaces requested file with a redirection.

If by default these files are included in released versions then get ride of sourceforge and move these files to github in usercontent for dev version or always put these f.. files in the installer, yep it doubles the size, but were wasting way more energy arguing about adding 6.4MB to the installer than we'll get back by not downloading them every time.Git download limit should be ok and with appveyor, travis, whatever built uploading packages from a bad connection shouldn't be a problem anymore.

BTW if possible climatology for 4.8 should link to the exe not the confusing github release page.

Re: Climatology

Did-g and Sean we have always had these files as a part of the installer!!
Why were they taken out????
Pavel tried this anlong time ago and we ended up reverting

If you intend to do it this way it must work reliably!!!
