Couple of OpenCPN Problems

I'm about to start a long distance race in three days, and wouldn't you know ,my onboard computer blew up. I was having a ground problem and I think the bad power blew it up.

I thought -- thank God I have time to order a new one.

So I did, received it yesterday, and -- it arrived as a brick. Power light would go on, but black screen. Tried bunch of things and after wasting hours struggline with it, I gave up.

So now what? Fortunately I still have the old computer on board. An old Atom box with only 32g SSD drive, but I used it in Greenland and it more or less worked. So I revived it, managed to update windows, updated O, tried to update plugins. But I'm having a couple of problems:

1. I can't update Logbook Konni or VDR. It seems because earlier versions were already installed. Must I uninstall the old versions first? I didn't see anything about that in the manual. I presume I won't lose data? I'll back it up, but I really don't want to risk screwing with the old data.

2. oeSENC charts don't stitch or scale. They all work, but I can only see them by manually selecting with piano keys. What gives? I've done full chart database rebuild but that didn't help.

I'll be grateful for any tips!!

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Dockhead,
I would Keep your existing logbook for the time being if it works. Back up your logbook data to somewhere secure.

The current updated logbook changes some directories, I thought it was working well, but flowchart has noticed some strange things. Until leamas has a chance to review what I did, I would stay with the old logbook version. And when you update, backup your data first please.

What version of O? Know OS is windoze. If it is 4 then that is old.

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Dockhead, filochard reports that v2.4.31.1 works, see where to download it here.
https://github.com/rgleason/LogbookK...ment-863993407

I have to fix and update the PIM in several days.

Don't forget to backup your logbook data first, to be safe!

I found it worked on windows. Filochard was testing on flatpak and ubuntu.

This assumes you are using a opencpn v5 with current wxWidgets.

Thanks! But what are wxWidgets? I don't have this and it's not in the plug-in director

There is no check box for "Enable Quilting" in the "Display" "General" section. Has it been moved in the later versions?

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Found it. It's in the "View" menu at the top of the screen. That did the trick. Thanks!

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Just remember that the "q" short cut key will toggle single chart and quilted mode.

The chart piano on the bottom indicates the mode you are in: sharp corners single mode, rounded corners quilted..

Before panicking.

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

"what are wxWidgets?" Opencpn uses this software toolset, and whenever this toolset is updated, all plugins must be recompiled and Opencpn changes major version number to signal the change.

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Hi.- One for the OPENCPN Documentation editors..

There is a fault in the NMEA RMB message definition, where the "TO" and "FROM" fileds have been transposed in the documentation in https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...nmea_sentences

The correct definition is
Field 4: FROM Waypoint ID
Field 5: TO Waypoint ID

You can confirm this by checking "For a comprehensive explanation of the NMEA 0183 protocol please read NMEA Revealed by Eric S. Raymond" that you reference in the same document.

Fortunately I understand that the actual OPENCPN code is correct and sends the waypoint names in the correct arrangement- It is just the documentation that is wrong.

A colleague and I discovered this when he used the OPENCPN your definition and I used the Eric Raymond definitions!.

I would have sent a PM to the editors, but apparently I am not trusted by the forum yet!...
Cheers and fair winds.

Re: Couple of OpenCPN Problems

Sorry Scubacat but Opencpn is correct as it is.

4. Origin Waypoint ID "FROM Waypoint ID"
5. Destination Waypoint ID "TO Waypoint ID"

We are not going to change anything, but thank you for bringing your confusion to our attention! It happens to all of us at one time or other.

Also a big Welcome to the Forum and Opencpn.
