Re: Cuba Charts

You need to determine where the actual charts in the chart kits originate. There are many old DMA and other charts from USA and European governmental archives. And then there are the "Cuban-government" derived nautical charts that are both accurate and up to date. Access to these Cuban derived charts is not easy as it has been determined that selling them in the USA violates the "embargo." However they were available from Canadian chart sellers and I suspect from other such outfits that are not located inside the USA.
- - As to "free" Cuban-derived charts - I seriously don't think any are available unless you know somebody who has already purchased them and is willing to let you copy their library. Many governmental charting agencies found out years ago that by "giving away" their charts they were losing a significant source of income so stopped making "free" charts available. Formats and copy protection was included such that even trying to copy a purchased version became extremely difficult if not impossible.

Re: Cuba Charts

I should have been more specific, since I was posting in the OpenCPN thread I thought it would be understood that I need digital charts, the kind that work in OpenCPN.

yeah, except for this part ....
Use Prices & Ordering page to calculate the price and order CM93 cartography.

I'm not to order something I have never seen nor heard of from a company that could likely be a troll.

if it ain't free, I don't need it

I was only talking about the digital versions. They are known as YC1 and YC2.
- - Landfall Navigation is one of the older and most reputable of nautical chart dealers. The link and then switching to the description of the NV charts also states that besides the paper booklet you also get the CDrom of the digital versions of the charts.
