Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

I'm having trouble with OpenCPN displaying Daymarks. Here's a screenshot pasted into a document -- which is the only way I can insert an image.

As you can see, the pillars of the daymarks appear in their proper colors, however, at the top of each is a ghostly outline of a triangle or square with no color in it -- makes it terribly hard to see. I have fiddled with the chart object scale and it gets bigger or smaller, but the ghosting remains.

Anybody know a solution for this?

p.s. -- My screen size is 1366 x 768.

Cheers,

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

Well, it appears the document with image I included didn't come through. I am stumped as to how to do this.

Yes one can -

see the screenshot attached.
- In the editing window, use the paper clip
- a pop-up window will appear
- select your screenshot
- upload it (if you don't see "upload", scroll right)

Attachment from "newcomers" are getting in quarantine often, so please be patient.

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

OK, bcn, I will do as you suggest.

Daymarks.doc

I see only a line of text.
It looks like it may have attached, but I can not see the image myself, in the editing window.

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

Because a .doc, a document, will not be presented. It has to be downloaded and opened by a local application

To show up in the post directly, a picture is required. In a format like gif, jpeg or png.

Use "Preview Post" to get an idea, how it will look like in the forum.

Here comes your screenshot....

BCN was a touch faster. It looks like your problem is not OpenCPN, but your chart.

The chart is telling OpenCPN what symbols to be used and where to put them.
Could you pls also add the chart as attachment or a link from where it could be downloaded??

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

It is the coding of the chart. At blake island the entry to the marina is coded as ObjectClass:
Beacon, lateral
Acronym: BCNLAT
Where as
Buoy, lateral
Acronym: BOYLAT

Is the common way for a chartmaker to code the chart.

Also at Blake island the topmarks are coded as
Daymark
Acronym: DAYMAR

while the common way is:
Topmark
Acronym: TOPMAR

So what you are seeing is the way the chartmaker intended it, or the chartmaker was an apprentice wo messed things up.

This is the correct display when using "Simplified" chart feature display. If you switch to "Paper Chart" feature display, you will see the more familiar images for the topmarks.

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

Rooiedirk, The charts are the standard American NOAA charts downloaded via the chart downloader PI. They are the "RNC Product Catalog WA" and "ENC Product Catalog WA".

bdbcat, What you said was the solution. My topmarks/daybeacons are back, for all of my charts for Puget Sound and all the way down the coast to southern Oregon. Thank you so much! I was confused because my charts on my OTHER computer downloaded at the same time (20/9/2018) were fine.

Cheers!

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

Oh, and in a further note, when I do a Alt-print-screen, the picture of the screen is put "somewhere" on my computer but when I do a search of the entire computer for any images it turns up nothing. Very mysterious.

I hate Windows 10. I'm only forced into using it for this one laptop dedicated to OpenCPN.

FAQ added for Daymarks.

Also added
How can I post a screenshot, large document or compressed file to the Cruiser's Forum?

Let's augment this so that there is a good explanation for new users.

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

rgleason, I'm following these instructions:

"see the screenshot attached.
- In the editing window, use the paper clip
- a pop-up window will appear
- select your screenshot
- upload it (if you don't see "upload", scroll right)"

Now, this is what happens:

I click on the paperclip,
the pop up window appears,
There is NO listing of screenshots,
All I see are 5 "choose your file" buttons and, below that, a static listing of acceptable file types. Some of these have numbers to the right that read "1600...1600".
NOTE: there is no button at the bottom of this screen labeled "Advanced", just a button that reads "Close This Window".

If I click on a "choose your file" button, I am left in my root directory to navigate to a folder to choose a file to upload but, as I said before, doing a search of the entire computer produces no images, other than the standard Windows 10 images. I have a directory labeled "C:\pictures\screenshots" but nothing ever appears in it. and I do not know how to set the computer to direct its screenshots to a specific location.

This may be important: someone here said that when a screenshot is taken, the screen dims momentarily as if a shutter has clicked to indicate a screenshot has been taken. My computer is not doing that.

This is an HP ProBook 6470b laptop, running Windows 10. Other than this, OpenCPN is running PERFECTLY.

Regards to all,

Rgleason,

So sorry to have bothered you. I have found Windows 10 "Snipping Tool".

Re: Daymarks are "ghosting". Why?

Good Job!

Google is your friend.
https://vkrepair.com/how-to-take-scr...in-windows-10/

Simply press the windows key (a button with the windows logo) and the print screen key.

This will save your entire screenshot to a folder named "Screenshots". To locate this folder, open up file explorer or any folder. In the address bar you have to type the following: "C:\Users\USERNAME\Pictures\Screenshots"

Use your File manager icon at the bottom, eventually Quick Access (part of file manager).
