Re: Editors Needed for User Manual Basic

I applied to get a job, as a video editor.
But, I didn’t make the final cut.

Very funny, Gord, but this is serious, we would like to finish this by Sat. June 8 and still have 17 pages to complete.

Can you handle photos? You're hired. PM me your full name, email, and skillset. I will add you as one of our active editors (there are about 20 sitting on the sidelines). We'd love to have you on the team!

Kind of frustrating, but I think the server gets hammered with changes and then decides you are a spammer. Then there is a timer and the 403 goes away. Don't know how long it takes, but we were gardening 5 hours.
It will be a challenge to take up your innovative solution to 403 errors, as I'm on the boat at anchor. However, we'll try with our 1/2 bag of potting soil and the 3 pots. I'm not sure I can keep it up for 5 hours, though. Please find an alternate solution.

Ok, John. I will write Bdbcat and K immediately, and copy you.

Re: Editors Needed for User Manual Basic

The 100 page Basic User Manual is almost complete. I really appreciate the time and effort spent by all who worked and are continuing to work on this project. There are just 6 important pages left to complete, other than the ones currently being worked on by active Editors.
I would really appreciate some other users stepping up to finish these pages, I am burnt out.

Re: Editors Needed for User Manual Basic

The revised 2024 Status and Progress shows that we now have just about 5 pages left.
These pages were recently completed:
Just a little more work needed.
These are the pages that need more Editing.
  • Use Routes Needs Work Rick,5/27, Mermike 5/29 split route, 3 minor Needs integration of new material from route properties. This needs some reorganization of the examples, other improvements.

Do we have some volunteer users who will help push this over the line to Completion?

Thanks,
Rick

Re: Editors Needed for User Manual Basic

2024 Editors,

The Basic User Manual is looking great. I think you can all be quite proud of this work. Right now I am setting up a local Dokuwiki server and downloading the Wiki so that hopefully we can create more a portable PDF and html manuals.
As noted in 2024 Status and Progress There are just a few places where some small improvements, clarifications and screenshots are missing. I think it is just 4 places that I know of, these are:
If these could be fixed before I get the Dokuwiki Server running so we can actually complete the full PDF export (which times out on the OpenCPN server), then the Manual will be 100% complete as far as we know. If these can't be completed, that is probably not such a big issue.
It appears that we have made the June 8 deadline set weeks ago (I had my doubts even then!) . Great job you guys. It wouldn't have happened but for all your efforts, I think we all learned new things about OpenCPN, I know I learned from each of you. I hope you will stay involved and continue to refine improve and update what has become the best User Manual yet! I hope you hear my applause to this great group of skilled editors!

Thanks, again. You have given the OpenCPN a wonderful gift.

Rick, you've done a great job driving everyone! I'm not sure how you keep all this in your head - it must be exploding. Thanks and ... there's always the Advanced Manual
