External DVD drive on raspberry pi headless install

I have been trying to get an external DVD drive to work on my PI4 headless OpenCPN install.

The drive is seen by the OS, then I receive a message Drive was remove without ejecting properly. This repeats over and over.

I've tried audio CD's and data DVD's in the drive. Same issue.

Any ideas on how to figure this out? I have looked at the log syslog file, but don't know enough about how to interpret the information.

You actually don't provide any information so we can't help you to interpret it. But if I had to bet on something and the DVD was USB powered, it would be not enough juice to power it.

I will bring a powered USB hub and try that. Also, will get the syslog files.
